Completed 5'6 0wt Ultralight Fly Rod: Project "The Grim Reaper"
It started with a question on one of my eBay promotions - could we build a one of a kind Ultralight fly rod. After going back and forward with some paper designs and sample materials my client settled on a design utilizing YLI silk in 'Chinese Red', blued hardware for guides and reel seat and grip and reel seat insert of a mix of red burl cork and flor grade portuguese cork.
The project hardest part was to obtain a blank that met the specifications and I turned to CTS and discussed having a one of blank built. It's a really lovely blank, as I have come to expect from CTS. The blank has a lovely action with and is from unidirectional S-Glass with a natural (white) finish. As you can see from the pictures at the end it almost glows in the sunlight.
Of all the rods I've built recently I'm the most sad to see this one go - it has been a real pleasure to build and the end result is absolutely stunning...
